Quick answer

You cannot reliably check Premium Bonds by name alone. This site does not search NS&I accounts or identify a holder. Use NS&I’s official account, record-recovery or tracing routes instead.

NS&I’s website prize checker asks for a Holder’s Number. If you do not know that number, or you are not sure whether you hold Premium Bonds, use NS&I’s Tracing Service.

Do not send your Holder’s Number, NS&I number, name, address or account details to this website. Use the official NS&I service.

Can you search by name alone?

No. A name alone does not reliably identify an NS&I holding, prove ownership, show whether a Bond has won, or establish authority to act for someone else.

This page is a guide, not a name-search tool. It has no name field, account lookup or result list, and this website cannot access NS&I customer records.

If you already have the details requested by NS&I, use the official NS&I prize checker. If your records are missing, use the official recovery or tracing route instead.

Why a name is not enough

Different people can share the same name, and a person’s name may change. A name also does not show whether a holding remains active, who is entitled to manage it, or whether a prize can be claimed.

NS&I uses its own identifiers and verification processes. On its website, the prize checker requires a Holder’s Number; an NS&I number can only be used for prize checking in the official app.

Find or recover a Holder’s Number

If you have lost your Premium Bonds records, start with the official NS&I guidance. NS&I says its Tracing Service can be used when you do not know your Holder’s Number or are not sure whether you have Premium Bonds.

This website does not recover, validate or accept Holder’s Numbers. Do not enter or send one here.

Changed surname or address

A changed name and a changed address use different NS&I routes. NS&I says Premium Bonds address and contact details can be updated through its official process, while a name change cannot be completed online and requires a paper form.

Use NS&I’s current instructions rather than sending old and new details to this website.

Old paper Bond records / Bonds bought for a child

An old Bond record may help NS&I trace a holding, but it is not proof on this website that the Bonds still belong to a particular person, remain active or have won a prize.

For Bonds held by a child, NS&I says the parent or guardian named on the application manages them until the child turns 16; from age 16, the child manages their own Bonds.

If a relative bought Bonds for a child, follow the official tracing process. Do not assume that the buyer is the current manager or can access the holding.

If the holder has died

Do not use an ordinary name search or account-recovery route as a substitute for the bereavement process. If you are dealing with the estate of someone who died, follow NS&I’s current bereavement guidance and make sure you are entitled to act.

This website cannot verify estate authority, identify holdings belonging to the person who died, or accept estate documents.

Use NS&I’s bereavement process

Tracing and unclaimed prizes

Tracing a holding and checking for unclaimed prizes are related but different tasks. Use NS&I’s tracing route when records or identifiers are missing. Use the appropriate prize-checking route when you have the required details.

This website does not confirm ownership, prize status or entitlement to payment.
